What pages does a small business website need?

Home, services (one page per service), about, contact, and proof. Five to eight pages covers most UK small businesses properly.

/ 01

The short version

More pages isn't better. One strong page per thing you actually sell is what gets found and what converts.

/ 02

What actually matters

  • Home: what you do, who for, where, and one clear next step.
  • One page per service — not a single 'services' list. Google ranks pages, not menus.
  • Location page if you serve a specific town or county.
  • Proof: reviews, case studies, before/after, accreditations.
  • Contact with a phone number, email, form, and a map if you have premises.

/ 03

The bit most people get wrong

The about page is usually treated as filler and it's often the second-most-visited page on the site. People buy from people — put a real photo and real story on it.

/ 04

What to do next

List your services. If any of them earns you real money and doesn't have its own page, that's your next page.

Common questions

Do I need a blog?

Only if you'll actually publish. An abandoned blog looks worse than no blog.

Is a one-page site enough?

For a launch or a single-service trade, yes. It caps your SEO though.
